Aluminum
Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron.
There is less maintenance, and it is resistant to corrosion from soil,
water, and lawn chemicals. We carry Alumi-Guard aluminum products.
Their fencing systems are durable, attractive, and superior to all
aluminum fences in today's market. Alumi-Guard's headquarters is in
Florida and as a result benefits our local economy. When
considering an Aluminum Fence make sure you do your homework.
Aluminum generally comes in three different grades such as, residential, light
commercial, and commercial. It important to understand the pros and
cons of each. The last thing you want is a faded out, bent
up, old rickety, fence within a couple of years. Below are descriptions
of the three general grades.
Industry Standard (residential):
You will find that the industry standard saturates the residential
market. Buyer beware, the industry standard is susceptible to a
few problems. The first major problem is the industry standard is
spray painted with enamel clear coat or thin powder coat. As a result, the aluminum
fence fades quickly to a pasty gray color. If you do choose an industry standard, make
sure it's powder coated with UV-ray additives. It can be repainted, but
it is an expensive process. The second major
problem is the thinness of the materials, which often results in pickets
bending. Most common cause of damage is lawn mowing equipment and
kids. The industry standard, residential fencing, feature
5/8" in thick picket and 1 1/2" rails. The wall
thickness are thin - the pickets can be bent with the human hand or the
weight of a human. The third major problem is the method in which
it's held together. For example, most industry standards are held
together by cheaply made 1 1/4" self tapping aluminum screws.
As a result, after repeated banging, the screws will dislodge themselves
and fall out. So will the pickets. Understand, the industry
standard is not designed for high traffic areas or for homeowners who
have weekly lawn care. At Paramount we strongly do not recommend
this type of aluminum for your home fence! We will figure out the
cost of the industry standard for you, but we do not install it. Light Commercial: For a few dollars
more, a homeowner can upgrade to a light commercial aluminum fence. It's
the
best choice for residential homes with moderate to high usage. The
pickets are 3/4" thick and posses greater wall strength than the
industry standard - they cannot be bent by the human hand. The rails are
thicker adding to the overall support of the fence. Most,
Light commercial aluminum fences are polyester powder coated and must
meet the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association.)
minimum mandates. The powder coat generally includes UV-ray
protection, but not always. Be aware, all polyester powder coats
or powder coat methods are not created equal. The best way to judge the
quality of the powder coat is by the length of the manufacture warrantee.
Less than thirty years is not good. Please
see the recommended product section below for in-depth explanation. We strongly recommend this type of aluminum for your
home.
Commercial Grade: is used for community swimming pools, parking lots,
and manufacturing facilities. They are not generally installed
around residential homes due to their high cost. The pickets
will be 1" and posses wall thickness over a millimeter thick and
have a polyester powder coating. Commercial grade aluminum can be
welded to create a solid structure and a seamless look. Regardless
of your choice, make sure you ask questions. Do not assume all aluminum
fencing is the same. Ask, ask, ask, and when in doubt call us and we'll
get your questions answered.
